

Program Description
The Community Policing Certificate Program (CPCP) is designed to recognize the achievement of an individual's progressive training goals within the field of Community Oriented Policing. The program blends a mixture of core courses, electives, and practical experience that together form a strong foundation of critical knowledge and information. It is designed to increase the professional excellence of the law enforcement member who is actively engaged in Community Oriented Policing.
Program Requirements
The total requirement for the completion of the program is 360 class hours as noted on certificates. This number includes the hours required for all core courses. For a list of courses and program completion please refer to the Student Checklist.
Program Application Process
Applicants must be sworn members of a law enforcement agency within the State of North Carolina. Participants must also hold at least a Basic Level Certificate in Law Enforcement from either the Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission. They must have a practitioner's background in community policing. Applicants must submit a completed application containing the endorsement of their agency head for entry into the program. Any courses that have applicable credits taken prior to entry into the program listed either as core or electives will be counted as credit earned into the program. These courses must be NCJA courses listed under the same title and must bear the same credit hours as those currently appearing in the program.
Program Application Process
The student must complete the program within four (4) years from the initial entry date, as listed on the application. If extenuating circumstances exist, the student may apply for an extension to the program coordinator.
